“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
To be a new creation (or creature, as some translations have it), means a believer in Christ no longer belongs to the existing creation. This implies that the current creation no longer has control over a believer’s life! What affects unbelievers has no longer power over you and me.
Jesus Himself made this statement about His followers in His High Priestly prayer to the Father:
“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (John 17:14)
The moment we receive the Word of God (John 1:1 calls Jesus the Word), our faith in Him births us (John 3:3) as new creatures into a new world, the Kingdom of God. Then we are no longer of the world, even though we still physically live in the world. Note the above quoted verse: “they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world”. In other words, the born-again believer (or new creation) is now in the same world as Jesus is! Can it be any clearer than John’s statement in 1 John 4:17?
“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”
I am really excited about this book. It will take some time to complete, but I am convinced it will affect the lives of many believers. Please pray for me.
